The yellow vehicle is called a K K Matowa here. It is a little three wheeled car used as a taxi for short distances.
Motorcycle taxis are called Okadas. They are a inexpensive form of transportation, but dangerous with so much traffic. Some states have outlawed them completely.
This photo is my favorite because it shows the most commonly eaten food here, yams. They are the large tubers in the center and far right of the photo. |
Lovely, Jen! You have a real talent for drive-by photography. ;) Does your market look similar to this one?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jackie, I think it was really dumb luck that I got anything. ;) The closest market to use is not nearly as big and has a bit more structure to it. There are wheel barrows full of mangoes at the corners of it, they sell all kinds of things...water, soda, beer, clothes...we haven't investigated it too much. We have been buying fruit and veg at small stands on side streets though. They are just hidden in the shade. Godwin is upset with me for not bargaining and paying too much...I guess that is something I will have to learn. :)
DeleteOh! Have a mango (or twelve) for me, will you? ;) Mmmmm. The markets and veg stands remind me of days gone by. I'm so so pleased for you getting to experience all of it and learn so much about your new home. Keep the stories and photos coming....love them! :)
DeleteYour not in Sccotland any more Dorothy!! I hope you brought your red shoes. Remember you just need to click your heels three times and keep saying, "There is no place like home. There is no place like home." I think you and Joe have started on a grand journey!
ReplyDeleteYes, there is a bit of culture shock for sure! Thanks Susan for your encouraging comments and support!
